Manually Grade Assignments

Review and grade assignments with open-ended or essay questions.

Manually grade assignment indicates an assignment has questions that require manual grading.

  1. In the upper-left corner, click Menu Gradebook.

    The gradebook opens.

  2. Adjust your gradebook display.

    To do this:

    View assignments from one category

    Select a category in Category Filter.

    Change score display

    1. Click Display Settings.
    2. Under Display Score as, select Points or Percentage.
    3. Click Save.

    Sort scores

    1. Click Display Settings.
    2. Under Sort by, select First Name or Last Name.
    3. Under Sort Order, select Ascending or Descending.
    4. Click Save.
  3. Click Manually grade assignment to open an assignment attempt.

    The first question that requires manual grading opens.

  4. Enter a score in Score.

    Scores are displayed as Points Earned / Total Points. Both values can be edited.

  5. Students can view feedback after the due date.

  6. Click Save.

  7. Select another question to grade.

    • To open the same question for a different student, select a student in Students.Students who have not attempted the current question are unavailable.
    • To open an ungraded question in the current student's assignment, click the Questions dropdown and select a question marked Ungraded manual question.
