Create an Account (K-12 Using NGLSync)

Create an NGLSync account to access your products and set up your first course.

Create an NGLSync account if you are a first-time Cengage teacher whose district uses NGLSync.

Important Do not create an account if:
  • Your district uses Cengage bulk rostering services or a Single Sign-On (SSO) system.

Contact your district technology coordinator for login credentials and instructions.

  • You access your learning platform through a learning management system (LMS) like Schoology® or Canvas™.

An account is automatically created for you after you first sign in to your LMS.

  1. Open the email with access instructions from your district and click Begin Registration.

If you did not receive an email with a registration link, contact your district administrator or Cengage representative.

  2. Select your institution and click Next.

If you cannot find your institution:

    1. Click My School Isn't Listed.
    2. Enter the information needed to verify your institution.
      • School name
      • School address
      • City
      • Zip code
      • Your email address
    3. Click Submit.

Cengage will verify your institution and email you when it has been added.

    4. Click Register and continue creating your account.
  3. Enter your institutional email address and click Next.
  4. Enter your first name, last name, and birth year.
Your user information will be verified to prevent the creation of fraudulent accounts. For faster verification, enter your name as it appears on school documents such as your teacher ID.
  5. Read and accept the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
  6. Click Verify.

Cengage uses SheerID® to verify your identity and role as an instructor to prevent fraudulent account creation. Many users are instantly verified.

If you are not instantly verified:

    1. Upload a school-issued document from the current year showing your name and your school.

      Acceptable documents include:

      • A copy of your instructor ID
      • A screenshot from your institution's online portal or learning management system showing your current courses
      • A link to your instructor profile on your institution's website
      • An official letter from your institution stating that you are an active instructor
If you have issues uploading your documentation, contact SheerID at customerservice@sheerid.com.
    2. Click Submit.

You will be notified of your results in the next 20 minutes.

    3. If your identity is not verified, you can resubmit proof of identity two more times.

If SheerID cannot verify your identity, contact Cengage customer support by phone and we will try to verify your identity manually.

If your identity has not been verified, you cannot access instructor-only features.

  7. Open the activation email and click Activate Cengage Account.

If you did not receive an activation email, check your Spam and Junk folders for an email from no-reply@ciammail.cengage.com.

  8. Type a password in both password fields, then click Set Password.
    Note
    Your password must contain:
    • at least 8 characters
    • a lowercase letter
    • an uppercase letter
    • a number
    • no parts of your username
    Your NGLSync portal opens.
  9. Accept the terms of use and policy statement and click Accept.
  10. To start creating your first course, click Next.

    Create new course:

    1. Select Start a new course and click Next.
    2. Select your school and click Next.
    3. Select a product and click Next.

You can scroll through the products purchased by your district, or search by name, subject, or author.

    Copy course from course key:

    1. Select Copy from a course key.
    2. If you do not know the course key for the course you want to copy, find it in the NGLSync district directory.
    3. Enter the course key, then click Validate.
    4. Click Next.
    5. Select your school and click Next.
  12. Enter your course name, start date, and end date.
You can edit this information later.
  13. Optional: To prevent students from automatically joining your course after a certain date, set Student self registration to Require approval and enter a date in Require approval on.
Tip Requiring enrollment approval deters cheating from students with duplicate accounts.

If a student tries to join your course after your chosen date, you will receive an email notification and can approve or deny their request.

  14. Click Next.
  15. Review your course information and click Finish.
  16. Click Add Students to Course.
  17. To have students create their own accounts and enroll in your course, click Copy URL and Course Key and share this information with your students.

Alternatively, click Add Students Manually to enroll students and create their accounts if necessary.

  18. Click Done.
Your course is created in your learning platform and shown on your NGLSync My Courses page.
