Tasks are grouped into 3 categories: Performance, Objective, and Custom.
Exams and Trainings created using one textbook, follow these task ordering rules:
- Performance tasks are ordered by the chapter and page number from the book. Tasks that have no page number are ordered by Task ID within the chapter at the end.
Exams and Trainings created when:
- More than one textbook is selected
- Selecting the Make all SAM Tasks available option
- Tasks that have no chapter or page number
Follow these task ordering rules:

| Microsoft® Word®, Excel®, and PowerPoint® | Follow from the organization of the user-interface and ribbon functionality. For each functional group, related tasks display sequentially. |
| Microsoft Access® | Displays by object type. For each object type, related tasks display sequentially. |
| Internet Explorer and Microsoft Outlook® | Display by functionality. For each individual functional group, related tasks display sequentially. |
