Building Block

To migrate from Building Block to LTI 1.3 integration, first install and register the Cengage tool, then migrate the Cengage content in your courses.

Install and Register the Cengage Content Tool

Open the email with your Cengage LMS configuration information. You will need:

  • Cengage Client ID
  • Registration Key
  • Deep Linking URL

    Install Cengage Content Tool

  1. Sign in to lms-name as an administrator.

  2. Click Admin to open Administrator Tools.

  3. Under Integrations, click LTI Tool Providers.

  4. Click Register LTI 1.3/Advantage Tool.

  5. Enter your client ID and click Submit.

    Your client ID is given in your Cengage configuration email.

  6. Set the following options:

  7. Click Submit.

    The Cengage Content tool is listed on the LTI Tool Providers menu.

  8. Next to the Cengage tool, click Options Menu Manage Placements.

  9. Click Synchronize Placements.

    The Cengage deep linking tool is added to your Administrator Tools.

  10. Register Cengage Content Tool

  11. Open a course in Blackboard.

    This can be a test course.

  12. Open the Cengage tool.

    Blackboard Original:

    1. Click Content.

    2. Under Build Content, click Cengage Content.

    Blackboard Ultra:

    1. Open the Content Market.

    2. Under Institution Tools, click Cengage Content.

  13. Enter your registration key and click Submit.

    Your registration key is given in your Cengage configuration email.

Migrate Cengage Content from Building Block

  1. Copy the consumer key for the Cengage Learning MindLinks Building Block.

    1. On your Administrator Panel under Integrations, click Building Blocks.

    2. Click Installed Tools.

    3. Next to Cengage Learning MindLinks Building Block, click Options Menu Settings.

    4. Copy the Consumer Key.

  2. On your Administrator Panel under Tools and Utilities, click Cengage Content Migration.

  3. Click Migration Service Settings.

  4. Locate the Toggle Cengage Learning Mindlinks Building Block Course Migration Settings panel.

  5. Turn ON the option labeled When set to ON, the migration service will have the ability to migrate a course that contains Building Block content.

  6. In Enter Your Consumer Key, paste the key you copied in Step 1.

  7. In Select LTI 1.3 Tool Provider, select the Cengage tool.

  8. To let instructors migrate their own courses, turn ON the option labeled When set to ON, the Building Block content migration service will be accessed by the instructor role users.

  9. Click Submit.

  10. On the Cengage Migration Tool panel, click Migrate Courses with Cengage Building Block Content.

  11. Select courses to migrate.

    1. Search for courses to migrate and click Go.

      • Specific courses: Search by course ID
      • All courses: Search Course ID Not blank
      • Template courses: Select Parent Courses Only
    2. At the bottom of the search results, click Show All to list all courses on the same page.

      Courses must be shown on your current page of search results to be migrated in bulk.

    3. Select courses to migrate.

      To select all courses, click next to Course ID at the top of the search results.

  12. Click Submit.

  13. To prevent instructors adding content with the wrong tool, remove the Building Block tool.

    1. On your Administrator Panel under Integrations, click Building Blocks.

    2. Click Installed Tools.

    3. Next to Cengage Learning MindLinks Building Block, click Options Menu Set Unavailable.

Your courses begin migration. Your school's primary administrator will be notified by email when all courses are migrated.

To view migration status, click Migration Run Status.

If migration takes longer than 24 hours, contact Blackboard support.
