SAM Assignments

You can schedule all SAM Assignment Types (exams, training, projects and SAM Path assignments) by clicking the Assignments tab under SAM Assignments and using the following procedures.

Note
  • If your institution has access to different content versions, you cannot schedule an assignment using one content version to a section using a different content version.
  • When instructors set dates in the calendar for all Assignment Types or set times and passwords for all exams and projects, the default days and times that display are for the local time zone on their computers. However, assignments are set for the institution time zone. As a result, instructors could select a day and/or time in the past. Be aware of this situation when scheduling assignments.
  • If a due date passes without a student submission, a zero displays in the Gradebook, no report generates and the Reset Score page displays incomplete. Click Submit Results to have students receive scoring on questions they completed before the due date.
  • If an assignment is a timed assignment, it submits automatically at the end of the time limit.

Instructors can create SAM assignments (exam, training, projects) either manually or with Express Creation.

Note You cannot create SAM Path assignments with Express Creation.
  • Manual Creation – used for exams, training, projects or SAM Path assignments when you want to customize the content. Instructors create and save exams and training first, then schedule assignments later.
  • Express Creation– a convenient way to create and schedule exam, training and project assignments associated to a chapter from a textbook in a section.

The following section shows you how to use Express Creation to schedule exams, training or projects.

Note Schedule all existing exams, training and projects from their respective tabs by clicking the Schedule icon.

Computer Concept Tasks

SAM has two types of computer concept tasks: Standard and Labs. In training assignments, both tasks have a training video and questions. In exam assignments, both tasks have questions only. Computer concept lab tasks have "lab" in the title and are not screen reader or keyboard accessible.
Standard
Available for all content versions.
Labs
Available for Office 2016 content version.
