Canvas LTI Advantage Integration

Use this procedure for any Cengage learning platform to allow instructors at your institution to link their Canvas and Cengage courses. LTI Advantage is the most up-to-date and supported integration. If you are migrating from a Partner API integration, be careful to prevent grade sync disruption.

Migrate from Partner API to LTI Advantage

To migrate from Partner API to standards-based LTI Advantage integration, install the LTI 1.3 tool.

Migration begins automatically, starting with the oldest courses. To view migration progress, click Progress next to the new tool.

Best Practices to Prevent Grade Disruption

  • Migrate when student usage is lowest, ideally when classes are not in session.

    Migration changes the user identifier for students, causing grade sync to stop until the student clicks a Cengage link in Canvas. Instructors can manually sync grades to import any missing scores earned during migration.

  • After migration, click all Cengage links in the course to ensure they have converted successfully.

    As a backup, links are migrated to 1.3 when they are clicked. If migration failed for a link, grades will not sync for that link until it is clicked.

  • Do not uninstall the old Partner API tool until migration is complete. After a complete migration, the progress indicator Progress is removed from the new tool.
