Add Activities

Add textbook activities to the learning path to assign them to your students.

Before you begin

This task is different depending on the version of MindTap used in your class.

If these directions do not match what you see in your class, click MindTap version in the toolbar above and select your MindTap version.

  1. Click + Add / Create > Activity.
  2. Select the kind of activity you want to assign.
  3. If needed, set options specific to the type of activity you are adding.

    Options typically include activity settings and scoring options.

  4. In the Assign to Course window, set activity details.
    Activity Title
    Label for the activity in the learning path.
    Description
    Information or instructions displayed when the activity is opened.
    Require Password
    Password protection for scoreable activities to prevent students from accessing them ahead of time.
    Available Date
    When students can start work on the activity.
    Due Date
    When students must end work on the activity.
    Associated Topic
    Textbook topic related to the activity.
    Order Within Topic
    Position in the learning path under the specified topic.
  5. Click Add.

If you are using category weighting, add your new activity to a category.

  1. At the top of the learning path, click + Activity > Activity.
  2. Select the kind of activity you want to assign.
  3. If needed, set options specific to the type of activity you are adding.

    Options typically include activity settings and scoring options.

  4. On the Assignment Details tab, enter your assignment information.
    Activity Title
    Label for the activity in the learning path.
    Description
    Information or instructions displayed when the activity is opened.
    Date Available
    When students can start work on the activity.
    Date Due
    When students must end work on the activity.
    Total Points Possible
    How many points the activity is worth in the gradebook.
    Password
    Optional: Require password protection for the activity.
    Timer
    Optional: Set a time limit for students to complete the activity.
  5. On the Settings tab, select an activity type in the Activity Settings Template dropdown to apply a set of scoring and feedback settings.
    1. Optional: Edit settings in the selected template as needed.
      Activity Attempts
      How many times students can submit the activity.
      Grading Policy
      When calculating student grades, use the student's best attempt (recommended), last attempt, or an average of all attempts.
      Shuffle Question Order
      Turn on to show questions in a different order for each student.
      Credit Type
      Set the activity to
      • Count towards Grade
      • Practice (Doesn't Count towards Grade)
      • Credit/No Credit: Students get 0 or 100%, depending if they meet the score you set

      Click Advanced Settings for more feedback and scoring options.

      Feedback Settings

      Allow Students to Check Answers
      Recommended for homework and practice activities.
      Show Feedback
      When to show students any available hints or guidance for how to answer the question.
      When to give students a link to relevant course materials.
      Show Correctness Marks (✓ / ✗)
      When to show students whether their answers are correct or not.
      Show Correct Answer
      When to show students the answer key for the activity.

      Scoring Settings

      Show Points Possible
      When to show students the available points for the activity.
      Allow Students to Review
      When students can review their previous activity attempts.
    2. Optional: To create a new settings template from your changed settings, click Save as New Template.
  6. Optional: On the Student Accommodations tab, set any student accommodations for this activity.

    Your enrolled students are listed on the left along with any current accommodations or extensions.

    Accommodations available for the assignment are listed on the right, and can include:

    • Date Available (if an available date is set)
    • Date Due (if a due date is set)
    • Time Limit (if the assignment is timed)
    1. Select the students whose accommodations you want to change.
    2. Extend the due date or make the assignment available early for the selected students.
  7. When you are finished, click Save All.
  8. Set the activity's location on the learning path in Folder and Placement.
  9. Click Save.
