Edit Settings Templates

Edit your activity settings to customize question submission, feedback, and scoring. Different combinations of settings are saved in templates so you can quickly apply them to other activities.

You can also create your own settings templates to apply to activities.
Before you begin

This task is different depending on the version of MindTap used in your class.

If these directions do not match what you see in your class, click MindTap version in the toolbar above and select your MindTap version.

These settings are not available for all MindTap courses.

Important You cannot change settings for an activity after students have started work.

Activity types:

Why Does "This" Matter To Me?
Introduction to the chapter topics followed by a poll.
Learn It
Instructional content and assessment questions presented side-by-side to help students understand key concepts.
Apply It
Homework, assessments, and case study content to help build critical thinking skills.
Study It
Practice assessments to help students review key concepts.
Additional Resources
Videos and case studies with concepts from multiple chapters.
Quizzes and Tests
Evaluate student understanding without hints or multiple attempts.
Course Readiness
Assessment of prerequisite skills and concepts with follow-up activities to help students refresh their knowledge of essential topics before class.

  1. Click user icon your name > Course Settings > Activity Settings Templates.

    You can also edit and create settings templates when you assign your activity.

  2. Click an activity type to expand the course settings for that activity type.
  3. Change the feedback and scoring settings as needed.
    Note These settings do not affect manually graded Manually Graded questions.
    Question Attempts
    How many times the student can submit a question (1-10).
    Note For manually graded questions, only one attempt is allowed.
    Show Correctness Marks (✓ / ✗)
    When to show students whether their answers are correct or not.
    Show Correct Answer
    When to show students the answer key for the activity.
    Show Feedback
    When to show students any available hints or guidance for how to answer the question.
    Show Points Possible
    When to show students the available points for each question.
    Show Earned Score
    When to show students their earned points for each question.
    Grading Policy
    Count either the student's Best Attempt (recommended) or Last Attempt for the final activity score.
    Counts Toward Grade
    If turned on, the activity score is used as part of the overall course grade.
    Credit/No Credit
    If turned on, award full credit when the student achieves the threshold score. The threshold determines the point at which the score is 0 or 100.
  4. If needed, change the settings for other activity types.
  5. Click Save Settings & Close.

Editing an existing settings template applies your changes to all activities using that template.
  1. Click user icon your name > Course Settings > Activity Settings Templates.

    You can also edit and create settings templates when you assign your activity.

  2. Click a template to view its settings.
  3. Edit activity settings as needed.
    Activity Attempts
    How many times students can submit the activity.
    Grading Policy
    When calculating student grades, use the student's best attempt (recommended), last attempt, or an average of all attempts.
    Shuffle Question Order
    Turn on to show questions in a different order for each student.
    Credit Type
    Set the activity to
    • Count towards Grade
    • Practice (Doesn't Count towards Grade)
    • Credit/No Credit: Students get 0 or 100%, depending if they meet the score you set

    Click Advanced Settings for more feedback and scoring options.

    Feedback Settings

    Allow Students to Check Answers
    Recommended for homework and practice activities.
    Show Feedback
    When to show students any available hints or guidance for how to answer the question.
    When to give students a link to relevant course materials.
    Show Correctness Marks (✓ / ✗)
    When to show students whether their answers are correct or not.
    Show Correct Answer
    When to show students the answer key for the activity.

    Scoring Settings

    Show Points Possible
    When to show students the available points for the activity.
    Allow Students to Review
    When students can review their previous activity attempts.
  4. Click Save All.

Add settings template

  1. Click user icon your name > Course Settings > Activity Settings Templates.

    You can also edit and create settings templates when you assign your activity.

  2. Click + Create New Template.
  3. Enter a name in Template name.
  4. Edit activity settings as needed.
    Activity Attempts
    How many times students can submit the activity.
    Grading Policy

  5. Click Save All.
You can apply your template to activities from the learning path.
