Diagnostic Adaptive Progression Assessment

Big Ideas Learning is continually working to provide a better experience for our customers. We are excited to announce an update to our Diagnostic Adaptive Progression (DAP) Assessment, providing teachers more insight into the number of questions and the time it takes to complete the assessment, as well as more control around the use of calculators during the assessment.

Assessment Length

For the longer tests, the DAP Assessment has been split into two sessions for Grades 3 through Algebra 2. Due to the adaptive nature of the tests, there is a range of questions that students receive. We are now able to provide insight into the number of questions a student might encounter, as well as the estimated time it should take students to complete the test.

Calculator Usage

For the closest experience students will have on state assessments, teachers need to know whether calculators will be allowed on the state assessment and proceed accordingly when assigning the DAP assessment.

  • Grades 3-5 teachers should ensure the Calculator option is left unchecked in the Tools menu when creating the assignment.
  • For Grade 6 through Algebra 2 teachers, it depends on the test and whether students should be allowed a calculator.

Please refer to the Appendix for the test information of each grade level, including whether multiple sessions are involved, the length of the assessment, the expected time it should take, and whether a calculator should be used.
