Everything about Assignments

This article is for any instructor who wants to edit or create assignments in VB Courseware. Courseware uses assignments to present students with information in a guided series of visual lessons. The Courseware assignment builder supports editing assignments that were previously created, as well as creating new assignments.

This article reviews editing or creating and setting the following about an assignment:

  • Content: Name, description, VB content or linked content
  • Student access: Release date, due date, draft or published state
  • Location: Change order or folder where assignment appears

Assignments can appear to students in one of two formats:

Format 1: An assignment with a description and a collection of assets

In this format, students receive a description that includes an overview of the learning objectives to achieve, as well as links to 3D models, animations, videos, etc. They use the collection of assets to investigate and achieve learning goals.

Format 2: An assignment with a description and a series of linked activities

This assignment format is more immersive. Students receive a description that includes an overview of the learning objectives to achieve and will work through specific activities on a predetermined path.

How do points in new assignment activities report to the grade book?

When creating and editing new assignments, there is the option to assign points to report to the grade book. Points report to the grade book as the student works through each activity:

  • Animations: Once a student watches 90% of the animation, the point value reports to the grade book. There is no partial credit.
  • 3D model activities, illustrations, images: Once a student launches the activity and moves through it the assigned points report to the grade book
  • Quizzes: Once the quiz is completed, a grade calculates according to correct and incorrect answers and reports to the grade book. If multiple attempts are set, it is the best score that is recorded.
Assignment points are entered in the pts field

Additional information is in the grade book article.
