Create a New Sakai-Integrated SAM Course

If you have not created the SAM course you want to integrate with SakaiĀ®, create it from Sakai.
  1. Open your Sakai course.
  2. Confirm the Lessons tool is enabled.
    1. Select Site Info from your navigation.
    2. Click Manage Tools.
    3. Scroll down to confirm that Lessons is selected.
  3. Select Lessons from your navigation.
  4. Click Add Content > Add Learning App.
  5. Click the Cengage tool.
    If the tool is not available, contact your administrator.
  6. If prompted, sign in to your Cengage instructor account to link your Sakai and Cengage accounts.

    If you don't have a Cengage instructor account, click Create Account.

  7. Click Add Homework Platform.
  8. Select the textbook or product you want to use from the available course content.
    • To search the available content, type a search term.
    • To see only SAM results, click Filter and set Filter By to SAM.
    • To filter the list by license type, click Filter and set the dropdown to Student Purchase Required or Inclusive Access.
    • To select an item, click Link to Course.

    The selected title is shown with SAM course creation and linking options.

  9. Select Create a new Cengage/SAM course (I will add assignments later).
  10. Complete the details for your SAM course.
    Field Notes
    Course Name
    Tip Include the academic term in the course name.
    Course Start Date

    This date is both the first day students can access your course and the beginning of your students' temporary access period. It cannot be changed after students access the course.

    Course End Date

    To allow your students to view their grades and complete late work, consider setting this 1 week after the last day of class.

    Course Number Optional: Include your course number.
    Time Zone

    Assignment dates and times are based on the time zone you select.

  11. Click Continue.
  12. Click the link to your SAM course and verify that it's set up how you want.

    If prompted, read and accept the service agreement.
