Managing Users This section contains all the procedures you need to manage SAM Users. Account Types in SAMEach SAM account has a role—Supervisor, Administrator, Instructor, or Student—that restricts access only to the actions needed for the role. Section creators and owners can perform additional actions for their sections. Searching for and Selecting a User AccountTo edit or deactivate a user's account, search for and select the user from SAM's database using the following procedure: Adding a User AccountWhen adding users, you can edit user information in the Properties tab. You can manage user enrollment in the Sections tab. When adding students, you can set accommodations in the Accommodations tab. SAM Grace PeriodStudents can use SAM without payment during the SAM grace period. The grace period lasts up to 14 days, depending on the length of the course and your institution. If students access SAM through an LMS, the grace period starts when the class is available. If students access SAM directly through sam.cengage.com, the one-time grace period starts when their account is first activated. Importing User RecordsSAM enables you to import users from an external system, such as your institution's admissions or registration database, by uploading a .txt or .csv file produced by that system. Editing a User's AccountYou can edit a user's profile, sections or student accommodations. Editing Multiple Users' AccountsInstructors can edit the sections or accommodations for multiple users at the same time.
