Link to Keyboarding in SAM Activities and Resources

After setting up your Keyboarding in SAM course, create links from Brightspace to activities or other content in Keyboarding in SAM. Linked graded activities are included in the Brightspace gradebook unless you choose to exclude them.

Before adding links to Keyboarding in SAM activities, make sure your Keyboarding in SAM course is set up the way you want it.

  • Add and organize the assigned activities and course materials for your Keyboarding in SAM course.
  • Configure assignment settings such as grading, attempts, feedback, time limits, due dates, and grade categories.

  • SAM activities are worth 100 points. To change this, edit the points for an activity in the Brightspace gradebook after adding the activity link.

Links created in this way are sometimes called deep links because they are not just web links but allow data to be exchanged between Brightspace and Keyboarding in SAM.

  1. Open your Brightspace course.

  2. Click the Content tab.

  3. In your module, click Add Existing Activities › Cengage.

    The Cengage tool may be named differently for your school. Ask your LMS Admin if you are unsure.

    If you do not see the Cengage tool, try this instead.

    1. Click Related Tools › Course Builder.
    2. Drag New Cengage Learning from Add Content to your module.
  4. Click Select Content and select activities to include in your class.
    A selected activity is labeled "This activity is imported in your LMS" and a warning message says "You are about to re-import already existing assignments."

    Graded activities that have already been added are marked This activity is imported in your LMS. To avoid duplicate activity links and gradebook columns, do not import the same activity twice.

    If needed, change gradebook syncing for specific activities.

    By default, when you include a graded activity it is added to the Brightspace gradebook.

    To remove an activity from the gradebook, clear Add to Gradebook.

    To sync an activity to the gradebook without creating an activity link, first select Add to Gradebook and then clear the Add to Course checkbox on the left.

  5. Click Continue.
