Integrate WebAssign With Your Blackboard Course

Your Blackboard administrator must have set up the Cengage tool in Blackboard.

With this integration:

  • You and your students access your WebAssign courses from Blackboard.

How do I know if I'm using this integration?

Your Cengage tool will be in a different location depending on which integration you are using.

These instructions are for an older version of the integration which uses a Cengage navigation item in your course navigation. If you have a Cengage navigation item that works, you are using this integration.

Google Classroom Versions

How you add WebAssign content to your Google Classroom depends on if your school uses Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals/Standard or Google Workspace for Education Plus.

To see which version your school uses, open the assignment editor and look for the Add-ons panel.

  • If your assignment has Add-ons, your school uses Google Workspace for Education Plus.
  • If your assignment does not have Add-ons, your school uses Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals/Standard.

Single-Section Courses General Procedure

  1. Create your course in Blackboard.

  2. Choose one of the following:

  5. Add Links in LMS to WebAssign Activities and Resources

Multisection Courses Using WebAssign Course Templates and Sections

  1. Sign in to Cengage and create your WebAssign course template and sections.

    1. Create your course template.

    2. In your course template, assign the activities you want to use.

    3. From your course template, create your course sections and set each section's information, including section name, meeting time, and instructors or TAs.

  2. Create your first Blackboard course section and link it to one of your WebAssign course sections.

  3. Create additional Blackboard sections that link to each of your other WebAssign sections.

Multisection Courses (Not Using Course Templates)

  1. Create your first WebAssign course section and assign the activities you want to use.

  2. Create your first Blackboard course section and link it to your first WebAssign section.

  3. Copy Your WebAssign-Integrated Course in LMS to create additional Blackboard sections that link to new copies of your first WebAssign section.

Multisection Courses

Blackboard sections must be created and linked before you begin integrating WebAssign courses. Blackboard permits section linking when enabled by your school or district administrator.

Each Blackboard section will be linked to a WebAssign course.

  1. Create your multisection Blackboard course.

  2. Link your first Blackboard section to a new WebAssign course.

  3. Set up your WebAssign course.

    Finish setting up your course before copying it over to the rest of your Blackboard sections, so you only have to make these changes once.

  4. In your Blackboard section, click the Cengage link you just created.

    Cengage opens in a new tab.

  5. In Blackboard, open the next section and click the Cengage link.

    The Cengage course linking page opens in a new tab.

  6. Link the Blackboard section to a copy of your WebAssign course.

  7. Repeat this process for each section in your Blackboard course.
