Weights

Timed Writings Outside the Lesson are graded by weighting: GWAM, Errors, and Accuracy. The combined weighted value of all three categories has to equal to 100%. You can adjust the weighted value of the three categories by moving the sliders.

The assignment grade is then calculated using the following formula:

(Weighted GWAM percentage x GWAM Grade) + (Weighted Errors percentage x Errors Grade) + (Weighted Accuracy percentage x Accuracy Grade) = Assignment Grade

You can also exclude a category from weighted calculation by moving the slider so the weighted value is 0%. The pie graph below the sliders displays the weighted values of all three categories.

Note You can reset to the default values at any time by clicking Defaults in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Default: GWAM 34%, Errors 33%, Accuracy 33%

GWAM

Gross Words a Minute or GWAM is the overall typing speed regardless of how many errors you make. In SAM, GWAM is graded based on 6 adjustable ranges across a 70-20 GWAM scale. You can change the ranges by moving the sliders across the scale.

Above each range area is the grade given to that specific range. You can change the grade

by clicking on the grade and using the plus and minus toggles. If a GWAM is greater than 70 the grade given will be the 70 GWAM range grade. If a GWAM is less than 20 the grade given will be the 20 GWAM range grade.

Errors

Errors are graded based on 6 adjustable ranges across a 0-10+ scale. You can change the ranges by moving the sliders across the scale.

Above each range area is the grade given to that specific range. You can change the grade by clicking on the grade and using the plus and minus toggles.

Accuracy

Accuracy is graded based on 6 adjustable ranges across a 100-50 scale. You can change the ranges by moving the sliders across the scale.

Above each range area is the grade given to that specific range. You can change the grade by clicking on the grade and using the plus and minus toggles.

Grade Calculation

The assignment grade is then calculated using the following formula:

(Weighted GWAM percentage x GWAM Grade) +

(Weighted Errors percentage x Errors Grade) +

(Weighted Accuracy percentage x Accuracy Grade) = Assignment Grade
