Test questions are determined by choosing Same or Random when creating the assignment. Students will either receive all of the same questions in the same order if Same is chosen, or they will receive different versions of the same test if Random is chosen. There are five different versions for each Random test. Each student would receive one of the five versions. If the assignment is created again, each student would receive a different version the second time. They would see a different test up to five times.

Are standards reported at all levels?
Aggregate standards reporting are available for course benchmark tests and progression benchmark tests. Benchmark standards reports will show student or class performance on each standard.
How do teachers know when to give the benchmark tests?
Big Ideas Learning has put the Course Benchmark Tests into the course timeline at the suggested course positions. The Progression Benchmark Test can be given at any time to measure students' progress toward learning the objectives.
How does the Progression Benchmark work?
There are five Progression Benchmark Tests, one per domain. Each test has an entry point based on the student’s course (or other teacher-specified entry point) and adapts based on student responses to the questions to assess student understanding of the objectives within that domain across varying grade levels.
How many domains do you recommend students take at one time for the Progression Benchmark?
We recommend only assigning one or two domains at a time. The number of questions students receive is based on the entry point and on student responses. If students answer correctly, they move on to the next skill. If students answer incorrectly, they are given a second attempt at a similar problem before receiving the lower grade level question for that skill.
What do students see in their reports on exercises, quizzes, practice tests, tests, and Course Benchmark tests?
Students see a summary of the questions they answered correctly and incorrectly, as well as partially correct. By clicking Show Details , students can see a detailed list of the questions, along with the available remediation for the questions they answered incorrectly or partially correct.
What do teachers see in their reports for exercises, quizzes, practice tests, and tests when they select an individual student?
The individual student reports show the question numbers the student answered correctly or incorrectly, as well as partially correct. When they click on Show Details , they can see each item number and if the student answered correctly, incorrectly, or partially correct, as well as if the student left the question unanswered. Teachers can also see the class average and the remediation available for each incorrect or partially correct answer. By clicking on the magnifying glass, teachers can also find the standards or objectives covered by each question.
What happens when a student fails a benchmark test?
Students are given remediation in their reports based on their incorrect answers. So even if they fail, they can get the help they need to get back on track.
What is the difference between the Progression Benchmark and Course Benchmark tests?
Both tests measure student understanding of learning objectives; the Progression Benchmark measures across all grade levels; while the course benchmark measures progress within one course.
What remediation is available to students?
Students will have access to lesson pages, the Multi-Language Glossary, Lesson Tutorial Videos, and an online chat tutor.
What do teachers see in the assignment performance report for the course benchmark?
Teachers first see an overall summary of how the class did on each benchmark they have taken throughout the year, so teachers can easily see the growth the class has made.

What do students see in the Progression Benchmark report?
Students see their progress related to each domain and grade level. By selecting one of the domains, they can view the subdomains within that domain. Students can also see the specific objectives they were tested on within the subdomain, and if they answered correctly or incorrectly. Students are also provided with remediation for the items they answered incorrectly or partially correct.
What are Exercises?
Questions build in complexity requiring students to communicate precisely, use appropriate tools for problem solving, and ultimately construct viable arguments to defend their results. The Exercises can be found after every Lesson in the textbook, as well as online in the Dynamic Assessment System. The online exercises correlate with the exercises from the textbook as closely as possible, so teachers can assign homework from the textbook or online, and students will have very similar experiences.
What is the Alternative Assessment?
The Alternative Assessments provide teachers with the opportunity to assess students on the same content in a variety of ways. These tests can be found in the Assessment Book for every chapter in print and online.
What is the Chapter Test?
Chapter Tests provide a formative assessment tool for educators to measure chapter concept mastery, and allow students to review the chapter materials prior to an in-class chapter test developed by the educator. The tests can be found at the end of every chapter in the textbooks. There are also two versions of the chapter tests in the Assessment Book, as well as two versions of the Chapter Test online in the Dynamic Assessment System.
What is the Cumulative Assessment?
A Cumulative Assessment is included in every chapter. The questions in each assessment were carefully chosen to represent problem types and reasoning patterns frequently found on standardized tests. The Cumulative Assessment can be found at the end of every chapter following the Chapter Test in the Student Edition. In the middle school programs, these can also be found in the Assessment Book for each chapter. In the high school programs, these can be found as quarterly assessments in the Assessment Book in print and online.
What is the End-of-Chapter Quiz?
Similarly to the Mid-Chapter Quiz, the End-of-Chapter Quiz provides educators with an opportunity to assess student concept comprehension for the second half of the chapter. The End-of-Chapter Quiz can be found at the end of every chapter in the middle school textbooks and Assessment Books. There is also an End-of-Chapter Quiz online for the middle and high school programs in the Dynamic Assessment System.
What is the Mid-Chapter Quiz?
The Mid-Chapter Quiz provides teachers with an assessment on the first half of each chapter. These quizzes provide educators with built-in concept checkpoints and can highlight potential problem areas prior to end-of-chapter testing. These quizzes can be found in the textbook around the middle of the chapter, as well as in the Assessment Book. There is also a second version of the quiz online in the Dynamic Assessment System.
