Add Links in Brightspace to MindTap Activities and Resources

After setting up your MindTap course, create links from Brightspace® to activities or other content in MindTap. Linked graded activities are included in the Brightspace gradebook unless you choose to exclude them.

Note Category scores can not be synced to Brightspace.

Before adding links to MindTap activities, make sure your MindTap course is set up the way you want it.

  • Add and organize the assigned activities and course materials for your MindTap course.
  • Configure assignment settings such as grading, attempts, feedback, time limits, due dates, point values, and grade categories.
Best Practice Use consistent assignment settings and a consistent schedule for due dates and times.

Links created in this way are sometimes called deep links because they are not just web links but allow data to be exchanged between Brightspace and MindTap.

  1. Open your Brightspace course.
  2. Open the Course Builder tool.

    In the Content tab, click Related Tools > Course Builder.

  3. Drag New Cengage Learning from Add Content to your module.

    Alternatively, click New Cengage Learning and select your module.

  4. Select a location to add your new links.
  5. Select activities to include in your course.
    Note Selecting a group of activities does not select all activities in the group. You must select each activity individually.

    Expand or collapse the course outline if needed.

    By default, when you include a graded activity it is added to the Brightspace gradebook.

    If your school uses a Brightspace Partner integration, due and available dates set in your MindTap course are synced to Brightspace. Any changes you make to due and available dates in your MindTap course sync to your Brightspace course. For consistency, make sure your MindTap and Brightspace courses are set to the same time zone.

  6. Configure grade syncing with Brightspace.
    Note Depending on your course and Brightspace configuration, some of the following options might not be available.
    To do this Do this
    Add a graded activity to the Brightspace gradebook Select Add to Gradebook for the activity.
    Exclude a graded activity from the Brightspace gradebook Clear Add to Gradebook for the activity.
    Add a graded activity to the Brightspace gradebook without adding the activity link
    1. Select Add to Gradebook.
    2. Clear Add to Course.
    Sync only the overall course score and not individual activity scores
    1. Click Activity Scores > Course Score.
    2. Click Synchronize Overall Course Score.
    Sync individual activity scores (after previously choosing to sync the course score)
    1. Click Course Score > Activity Scores.
    2. Click Synchronize Individual Activity Scores.

    Scores sync automatically when assignment attempts are submitted in MindTap and when you enter or edit scores in your MindTap gradebook.

  7. Click Continue.

The content page displays all the links you have added to your MindTap course and activities.

If needed, you can reorganize the links in Brightspace.
