CSFI (College Success Factors Index) Activities

The College Success Factors Index (CSFI) is an online resource within MindTap's Learning Path that assesses students’ patterns of behavior and attitudes in 10 areas that have been proven to affect student outcomes for success in college.

Note This topic is for instructors using the standard version of MindTap and does not apply to the latest MindTap version.

If these directions do not match what you see in your class, click MindTap version in the toolbar above and select your MindTap version.

The CSFI can be administered both as an up‐front pre‐test of attitudes and behaviors and as a post‐test follow‐up later in the course. CSFI activities are included in the learning path of all Cengage College Success titles. The CSFI can be administered both as an up‐front pre‐test of attitudes and behaviors and as a post‐test follow‐up later in the course.

The CSFI helps address an institution’s retention rates by:
  • Identifying “at-risk” students with early‐alert reporting.
  • Highlighting specific areas for improvement that can be targeted by focused interventions.
  • Addressing students’ holistic development by examining cognitive factors, social, and emotional factors that can impact success.
10 areas CSFI assesses:
  • College Involvement
  • Competition
  • Expectations
  • Family Involvement
  • Persistence
  • Precision
  • Responsibility and Control
  • Task Planning
  • Time Management
  • Wellness
