Set Late Submission for Activities

Allow students to submit an activity within a specified number of days past the due date. You can grant a late submission with or without a scoring penalty.

Late submissions do not apply to:

  • Activities whose due date is the same as the course end date
  • Non-MindTap activities
  • Inline activities
Note When setting any late submission, keep these special conditions in mind:
  • If the late submission deadline goes beyond the course end date, the late submission deadline will be set to the course end date.
  • If a student receives a due date extension on a specific assignment, then the late submission deadline is automatically set relative to that student's extended due date.

Set a late submission policy for one activity, or apply your policy for multiple activities at once.

Before you begin

This task is different depending on the version of MindTap used in your class.

If these directions do not match what you see in your class, click MindTap version in the toolbar above and select your MindTap version.

  1. In the toolbar, click Progress.
  2. Click the Settings tab.
  3. Click Set Late Policy.
  4. Optional: Click Filter by to filter your assignments by due date and category.
  5. Optional: To search by the name of an assignment, type the name or a keyword in the Jump To box.
  6. Select each activity whose settings you want to change.

To select all activities, click the checkbox beside Assignment Name.

  7. Under Set Late Policy, specify the late submission period.
Note Submissions must be made before the end of the course even if the specified number of days extends past that date.
  8. Optional: Turn on Late Penalty to set a percentage point deduction from the student’s assignment grade for assignments submitted after the due date.

Deductions are calculated from total possible points and not earned points. For example, a 10% late penalty is set to deduct from a potential 100% score. In this scenario, if your student receives a 90%, the score is reduced to 80% after penalty.

  9. Click Apply.

Activities with late submission display Late Submission Enabled. Click the activity to view the details of the late policy.

Click or hover over an icon to display details about the late submission.

When a student submits an attempt during the late submission period, their activity score displays Late Submission made in the Progress tool.
